Coyotes sign McGinn, target depth in free agency

Transactions started to pour in, one after the other, once the NHL free-agent signing period opened Friday morning – five, six and seven-year deals with an annual value of $6 million.

By early afternoon, more than a half-billion dollars had been doled out.

The Coyotes helped stoke the frenzy, landing scoring winger Jamie McGinn with a three-year, $10 million contract and signing eight others. But after surveying who was available, including the pricier headliners, they mostly targeted options to beef up their depth.

“We accomplished a lot of what we were looking to do,” General Manager John Chayka said.
