Saturday's 3-0 loss to the New York Islanders was the Arizona Coyotes' fifth straight to open the season, and the first one in which they were shut out.
The Coyotes (0-4-1) went into the third period, which has been their most productive this season, down by two. But they could not solve Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin, and gave up a goal midway though the final 20 minutes.
The Coyotes have allowed at least one power play goal in all five games. The Islanders' Brock Nelson scored a power play goal in the second period to give New York a two-goal lead.
