Coyotes winger Steve Downie hasn’t had much playing time the past month, but a trip to the minors should help rectify that.
After clearing waivers Monday, Downie was assigned to the Coyotes’ American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield.
“He’s gotta get his game up and moving here,” coach Dave Tippett said.
In 25 appearances, Downie has chipped in three goals and three assists. He missed a chunk of time in November with an upper-body injury but since getting healthy, he struggled to stay in the lineup.
Before playing in Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the Devils, Downie had been a healthy scratch for nine of the previous 12 games.
