Coyotes' rally falls short in return home

The Coyotes managed to survive a less-than-flattering special-teams battle Thursday when they snapped their losing skid.

Despite giving Philadelphia eight power plays and surrendering two goals on the chances, Arizona pocketed its second win of the season by outlasting the Flyers 5-4.

Against the Avalanche in their return home from a lengthy trip, the Coyotes weren’t so lucky as Colorado posted a 3-2 rally Saturday at Gila River Arena that was fueled along by the power play.

After blanking on their first two chances with the man advantage, the Avalanche finally capitalized at 1:42. Center Nathan MacKinnon’s shot caromed off the end boards into the slot where winger Rene Bourque buried it by goalie Louis Domingue.
