On video, it looked like just another hockey fight, two players from opposing teams dropping the gloves and squaring off on the ice during a game in February 2020.
But it was much more for Bokondji Imama, then a player for the AHL's Ontario Reign. The forward from Montreal had the opportunity, within the rules of the sport, to take on Brandon Manning of the Bakersfield Condors a little more than two weeks after Manning had used a racial slur directed toward Imama, who is Black.
Imama wasn't going to let it slide, even after Manning, according to a statement he made after the incident, said Imama allowed him to apologize.
