RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Alexander Semin on unconditional waivers.
The team announced the move Tuesday, saying it plans to buy out his contract.
The Hurricanes say Semin must clear waivers at noon Wednesday before his deal can be bought out. They say he was told of the move Tuesday.
The 31-year-old Semin has three years remaining on a contract extension signed in March 2013 that pays him $7 million per season.
Semin had a career-worst six goals and added 13 assists in 57 games during a disappointing 2014-15 season.
