ANAHEIM, Calif. – With one year left on his contract, center Antoine Vermette expected to be suiting up for the Coyotes this season.
But he was left without a team in August after Arizona exercised a buyout, a decision that flipped Vermette into free agency at a time when most teams had their rosters settled.
A reliable, two-way center, Vermette ended up not having too much trouble finding a new employer as he signed a two-year, $3.5 million contract with the Ducks two weeks after he was bought out.
And although Vermette didn’t anticipate this journey, it’s worked out well for the 34-year-old.
