Boivin: How Valley rookies cope with new world

It’s not easy being a rookie in the professional sports world.

“I got tied up to a goal post and had water dumped on me,” Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer said.

After a pause, he added: “Or maybe I did that to someone.”

The Valley sports scene is swelling with rookies. The Coyotes had five make their opening-night roster, including three teenagers. One-fifth of the Suns’ 15-man roster? Rookies, and one is a starter. And the Cardinals started one against San Francisco on Sunday.

Most are not old enough to drink or rent a car. Some are still eligible for teen night at the local YMCA.
