Arizona Coyotes waive veteran Michael Grabner in salary cap move

The Arizona Coyotes on Saturday placed veteran forward Michael Grabner on waivers for the purpose of buying out the final year of his contract, the team confirmed.

Grabner, who turns 33 on Monday, played the first two seasons of a three-year, $10.05 million contract and totaled 27 points, 17 on goals. He played in 87 games, limited by an eye injury in his first season that kept him out for three months, then being a healthy scratch often last season.

Grabner shined in the Edmonton bubble, however. He scored twice in the Coyotes’ qualifying series win over the Nashville Predators, including a Game 1 shorthanded goal in Arizona’s 4-3 win.
