McBain had everything Arizona Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong wanted in a power forward, but there was one catch: his rights were owned by the Minnesota Wild. The 22-year-old was the Wild’s third round (63rd overall) pick in the 2018 draft while he was playing for his hometown Toronto Junior Canadiens.
Once he became available to other NHL teams after informing the Wild he would not sign with them, Armstrong knew what his next move was.
