The Arizona Coyotes had a chance to erase its previous downfalls and did so by posting its best offensive output all season long.
However, the result didn’t favor the team’s efforts with the Montréal Canadiens (15-15-2) besting the Coyotes (10-15-5) in a 3-2 overtime loss.
Monday’s late game followed up a rare lackluster finish at home from the Coyotes in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. The Coyotes played heavy in the Canadiens zone, holding the edge in shots for the first two periods and finishing with a season-high 39 shots.
But while it was usually Coyotes goaltender Karel Vejmelka making big saves on a heavy workload, this game featured Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault as the workhorse with 37 saves.
