The Arizona Coyotes were rested, had gotten in some practice time this week and were on a three-game winning streak. Then they took the ice in Denver Wednesday night and suffered an historic blowout.
The Coyotes couldn't overcome five goals allowed in the first 7 minutes and 31 seconds, and gave up a season high in goals in their 9-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche to open a nine-game road trip. The nine goals allowed is the most the Coyotes have surrendered in a game since Oct. 11, 2006, a 9-2 loss at Detroit.
