Rick Tocchet isn’t one to sugarcoat things. If his team plays poorly, he’ll tell you. If his team plays well, he’ll tell you.
The second-year coach of the Coyotes is not a spewer of optimism in his postgame comments, so the fact that Tocchet had mostly positive things to say about his team’s 1-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks (2-0-0) on Saturday should speak volumes.
Despite out-shooting the Ducks by 21 shots, the Coyotes (0-2-0) failed to score for the second straight game. They have now been held scoreless in 120 consecutive minutes. When they inevitably find the back of the net, they will be the last team in the NHL to score their first goal of the season.
