The phrase “mutually agreed to part ways” suggests both parties were equally motivated to divvy up the sheets and call the movers. That’s rarely the case. That wording usually is used so one side can save face.
But when it comes to the split between Rick Tocchet and the Coyotes, announced on Sunday, it appears to be accurate. Each side agreed life would be better with someone else, and with no contract to bind them, there wasn’t much to do other than make sure Tocchet had the boxes and tape needed to pack.
Tocchet hasn’t commented other than to say he’s loved living, playing and coaching in Arizona.
