The Coyotes acquired forwards Marian Hossa, Vinnie Hinostroza and defenseman Jordan Oesterle from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forwards Mackenzie Entwhistle, Marcus Kruger, Jordan Maletta, defenseman Andrew Campbell and a 2019 third-round pick, the club announced Thursday.
Hossa, 39, has a skin disorder and announced his retirement prior to the 2017-18 season. Hossa is signed for three more years and has a $5.275 million salary cap hit for each of those seasons. He will likely be placed on long-term injured reserve.
The Coyotes are no strangers to taking on large contracts for salary-cap purposes. Most recently, the club acquired Pavel Datsyuk's $7.
