Coyotes goaltender Antti Raanta was 75 percent sure that Patrick Maroon’s would-be tying goal at 11:08 of the third period would be disallowed for goaltender interference.
Due to the unclear nature of the goaltender interference rule, no one knew for sure if the Coyotes’ challenge would be successful — but it was, and Arizona held on for a 1-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday at Gila River Arena.
A 39-save performance by Raanta, who posted his first shutout of the season and first with the Coyotes, led the Coyotes to their fourth win in a row and their sixth straight game with at least one point.
