After a promising first half led by the defense, the Arizona Cardinals failed to find any sort of offensive rhythm against the Commanders, resulting in a 20-16 season opener loss. At one point, the Cardinals had five straight offensive plays that ended in negative yardage. Yet somehow, Arizona still managed to lead 16-10 up until the 1 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. It was a Sam Howell six-yard QB run that gave the Commanders their first lead of the second half. Meanwhile, the Cardinals final five drives combined for just 30 total yards. In this span, three of the drives ended with a punt, one ended with a fumble, and the final one ended with a turnover on downs.
