The Cardinals plan to re-sign center Lyle Sendlein today, according to two NFL sources.
Sendlein started the last seven seasons for the Cardinals, but the team released him last spring because it deemed he wasn’t worth the $3 million salary he was due in 2015.
Sendlein declined to take the pay cut offered by the team.
To replace Sendlein, the team signed A.Q. Shipley in free agency, and he was competing with Ted Larsen in training camp.
Sendlein’s return is an indication that coaches weren’t sold on Shipley or Larsen. In theses types of contracts, General Manager Steve Keim usually offers a lower base salary but includes play-time incentives that can increase the compensation.
