A week after releasing veteran wide receiver Michael Crabtree, the Cardinals made another interesting move Monday by reportedly releasing veteran D.J. Swearinger, who had been their starting strong safety.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media and ESPN’s Adam Schefter each reported the move, citing league sources.
Swearinger, who was in his second stint with the Cardinals, was expected to be one of the rocks of Arizona’s defense this season. He had eight tackles during Sunday’s 27-10 loss to the Seahawks, but has also missed several tackles and has been caught out of position on multiple passing plays through the team’s first four games.
