For a guy who regularly shows up to work about three hours before the birds begin to sing in the morning, Kliff Kingsbury sure didn’t sound like he wanted to ever be a dedicated, work-around-the-clock coach after getting a taste of it as an NFL rookie back in 2003.
After a record-setting career as a quarterback at Texas Tech and getting drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round, Kingsbury hurt his arm year and ended up on injured reserve. Instead of fading into the background, however, coach Bill Belichick saw enough in the offensive-minded Kingsbury to make him a valuable member of the organization.
