Darnell Dockett will sign a one day contract on Monday with the Arizona Cardinals to announce his retirement from the NFL.
Dockett has not played a down in the NFL since he tore his ACL in 2013. Following a rough departure from the team in 2014, Dockett signed with division foe San Francisco 49ers only to be cut prior to the teams first game.
Dockett, who was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2004 draft, was one of the keys to turning the franchise around. He was always outspoken and was the polar opposite of Adrian Wilson and Larry Fitzgerald, the other two keys to turning the Cardinals from perennial laughing stock, to what many consider to be one of the best run franchises in the NFL.
