Cards ILB spot unsettled with Weatherspoon out

OAKLAND – Inside linebacker Kevin Minter’s emergence as a defensive leader was among the positive developments of Cardinals training camp.

Independently and unprompted, cornerback Jerraud Powers and end Calais Campbell praised Minter on Friday after the last practice of training camp.

So did General Manager Steve Keim and coach Bruce Arians.

“Kevin’s grown,” Arians said. “His command of the huddle, he’s loud now. Even if he’s wrong, he’s loud, and he thinks he’s right. That’s OK, because everybody is on the same page.”

When camp opened a month ago, the Cardinals didn’t expect, or necessarily need, Minter to assume this role.
