Cards' Arians rarely lays up when calling plays

CHICAGO – Those who know Cardinals Coach Bruce Arians well weren’t surprised last Sunday when Arians called a pass play in the final minutes against the Saints.

Or that the ball was thrown to a rookie who had barely played that day.

Forget protecting the lead, Arians reasoned, go win the game.

The gambit worked, as has nearly every other one Arians has taken in his two plus years with the Cardinals.

David Johnson took the short pass and sprinted 55 yards to the end zone to help give the Cardinals the 31-19 victory over the Saints.
