Cardinals RB Chris Johnson has fractured tibia

Considering what the Cardinals initially feared, the news was generally good on the injury front Monday involving the three pivotal players the team lost during the third quarter of Sunday’s 19-13 defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.

Running back Chris Johnson, who ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing with 814 yards, was hurt after taking a helmet to his left knee. Initially on Monday, the Cardinals said it was either nothing more than a contusion or a bone bruise. At the time, the team was still awaiting results from an MRI exam Monday afternoon.

Later in the day, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that Johnson has a fractured tibia and will be sidelined indefinitely, though not necessarily for the rest of the season.
