Patrick Peterson turns 26 this summer, an age when most people are seeking a mentor, not becoming one.
But this is a different offseason for the Cardinals Pro Bowl cornerback.
He’s recovering from ankle surgery, so he won’t be practicing until training camp, which starts in late July.
Just as important, the departures of safety Rashad Johnson and cornerback Jerraud Powers have left Peterson, who hasn’t missed a game in five NFL seasons, as sort of an elder statesman in the secondary.

Those factors have allowed Peterson to develop his coaching skills.
