Not many NFL players can cement a legacy in their rookie season. Especially an undrafted rookie free agent from a Division II school who just happened to be the fifth cornerback on the depth chart.
That’s what Malcolm Butler did, though, when he intercepted a Russell Wilson pass at the goal line in the final minute of play during Super Bowl XLIX at State Farm Stadium. The pick, one of the most iconic plays in Super Bowl history, prevented the Seahawks from scoring the go-ahead touchdown and it preserved a championship for the Patriots.
Butler will now be calling State Farm Stadium home after signing a one-year, free-agent contract with the Cardinals this week.
