When the Cardinals signed veteran free-agent wide receiver A.J. Green to a one-year deal a couple months ago, you could hear the collective groans across the social media landscape.
“Oh great,” the critics said under the breath. “Another aging former superstar ending his career in Arizona.”
“It’s Emmitt Smith all over again,” they said.
It’s completely fair to wonder just what Green can offer the Cardinals in 2021 upon turning 33 before the start of his 11th NFL season. He missed the entire 2019 season with the Bengals because of a torn ligament in his ankle and missed seven games the previous year because of a toe injury but returned in 2020 to finish with 47 receptions for 523 yards and two touchdowns.
