Everyone knows how things turned out last season when the Cardinals were forced to turn to their third- and then ultimately, their fourth-string quarterback. They faded down the stretch and were one-and-done in the playoffs.
Well, the Cardinals are down to the third- and fourth-string running backs and they don’t seem to be missing a beat.
Unlike Logan Thomas and Ryan Lindley, who couldn’t impress and/or get the job done when it mattered the most, David Johnson and Kerwynn Williams look like absolute saviors to the NFL’s eighth-ranked rushing attack.
Johnson, moving into the lead tailback role with Chris Johnson sidelined at least until the Super Bowl with a cracked tibia, responded with a 99-yard effort on 22 carries during Arizona’s 27-3 rout of the Rams on Sunday.
