The Cardinals have released starting defensive end Darius Philon.
They announced the move on Saturday, a day after TMZ reported that Philon was arrested and taken into custody at a Maricopa County jail on Friday morning on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an incident outside a Phoenix strip club in May.
“With regard to Darius Philon, obviously we’re aware of the situation and the serious allegations,” coach Kliff Kingsbury said upon meeting with reporters before the start of practice at State Farm Stadium, where the team is holding its training camp. “It’s been reported to the league, so we will allow that process from a legal perspective and a league perspective to move forward and we aren’t allowed to comment further at this time.
