Arizona Cardinals mid-round pick could be pleasant surprise

There must have been smiles all around in the Arizona Cardinals war room last weekend. Being fortunate enough to land a blue-chip prospect on the NFL Draft’s third day is certainly a reason to celebrate. And that’s exactly what the Cardinals were able to do.

General manager Steve Keim may have struck gold by landing Alabama’s Deionte Thompson with the first selection of the fifth round. The talented safety tumbled down the draft boards, much to the chagrin of the kid and his agent. But football is a business, and what was bad news for Thompson could end up being great news for the Arizona defense.
