The Arizona Cardinals were awarded a fifth round compensatory pick as part of 33 picks handed out by the NFL today. The pick, awarded to teams who lose more free agents than they sign, will be the first compensatory pick in the draft, taking place as the 33rd pick in the fifth round (170th overall).
The Cardinals entered the day with only six draft picks, having traded their seventh round pick for Matt Barkley just before the start of the 2015 season, they now have two in the fifth, and one in each round except the seventh. Compensatory picks cannot be traded this year, the last such year they cannot, starting next year they can be traded by teams.
