Cardinals opponents have scored 58 points in two games, 40 of them in the first halves, converted half their third-down opportunities and gained about a half-mile in yardage.
Given those large numbers, it was odd this week to hear coordinator Al Holcomb say the Cardinals are inches, not miles, away from being a good defense.
“We always talk about six inches being the difference,” he said, “whether we’re coming on a pass rush, a blitz, guys are six inches away from getting the ball out. We’ve got tight coverage, the quarterback just lobs the ball up there and we’re six inches from making a play.
