BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling ranked sixth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the National Duals Selection Committee’s newly formed Mid-Major Top 20 college wrestling poll on Thursday.
With the ranking in the first NWCA/NDS Mid-Major Top 20, the Mountaineers (11-2, 5-0 Southern Conference) are now ranked highly in three major wrestling polls. App State is also No. 21 in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the InterMat poll.
The new poll will concentrate on programs outside the traditional Power 5 conferences with all-sports members of the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC not eligible for consideration.
