BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Three Mountaineers allowed no earned runs in their App State debuts in a 5-1 season-opening loss to Gardner-Webb on Friday.
Freshman right-hander Noah Hall registered five strikeouts in his App State debut, working 2.1 innings in relief of starting pitcher Tyler Tuthill. Hall allowed just two hits and an unearned run in Friday's game.
Sophomore left-hander Cole Hooper also delivered a scoreless outing, striking out two Gardner-Webb (1-0) batters in the eighth inning before giving way to redshirt-freshman Matthew Helms to close out the frame.
