O’Keefe Gets First Win; Apps Blast USC Upstate 3-1 in Home Opener

Freshman Graham Smalley scored his first collegiate goal and game-winner to give Appalachian State University men’s soccer its first win of the season and Jason O’Keefe his first win as head coach.

The Mountaineers (1-4) rallied from a USC Upstate (2-2) equalizer in the 71st minute by scoring two goals in the final 14 minutes of the game to win 3-1. With the win, App State improves to 37-15-2 all-time in home openers.

“I’m definitely pleased with the effort tonight to score first and then the guys having the resiliency to have a response to conceding their goal,” O’Keefe said.
