BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State student-athletes did their best to get heavily involved in Read Across America last week. Nine App State sport teams combined on over 80 hours of reading to elementary school students during last week’s 20th annual event, held on Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Student-Athletes from Women's Tennis, Men's Tennis, Women's Basketball, Men's Basketball, Football, Field Hockey, Men's Soccer, Women's Track and Cross County participated in Read Across America throughout the Boone area. Five of the eight local elementary schools received visits from App student-athletes (Mabel, Parkway, Hardin Park, Green Valley, and Blowing Rock) during the day to read, including from football’s Clifton Duck, an FBS Freshman All-American on the field this season, who spent the afternoon reading and voicing Dr.
