BOONE, N.C. – A second-inning grand slam by Macy Hamby and a third-inning 3-run home run by Makayla McClain, the Sun Belt's reigning Player of the Week, helped the App State softball team to a convincing 9-1 run-rule victory in the series opener against Marshall on Friday. A crucial error by the Marshall shortstop with two outs helped the Mountaineers post a six-run bottom of the second, which blew the game wide open.
App State (14-20, 5-5 SBC) needed just four hits to post nine runs in the series opener, and every run came with two outs.
