BOONE, N.C. — Buoyed by winning its first-ever Sun Belt Conference championship in women’s indoor track and field this week, Appalachian State University athletics has taken an 11.5-point lead in the Sun Belt’s latest Vic Bubas Cup standings. The Bubas Cup is awarded annually to the Sun Belt’s top all-sports program.
With eight of the Sun Belt’s 18 sports in the books, Appalachian State has compiled 62.5 points in the Bubas Cup standings, good for an 11.5-point lead over second-place and defending champion South Alabama (51 points). Appalachian’s 11.5-point lead over South Alabama is almost as big as the gap between second-place USA and fifth-place UT Arlington (39 points).
