BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling dropped its first home match of the season in the NWCA Division I Championship Series matchup with Indiana on Sunday afternoon, 21-12.
In a rematch of last year’s National Duals match, the 19th-ranked Mountaineers (12-3, 7-0 SoCon) battled toe-to-toe once again with the Hoosiers (10-8, 2-6 Big Ten), but the score would up being almost exactly reversed to 2015.
Highlighting the match for the Black and Gold, the team won five weight classes on the day. No. 24 freshman Colby Smith downed Indiana’s Garrett Pepple in a 5-0 decision at 133 pounds to tie the team score at 3 apiece.
