App State football bounced Georgia State 45-16 in the Mountaineers’ Sun Belt conference opener in Atlanta Oct. 2.
“We had to play to our potential. We can’t play to the other team’s potential,” head coach Shawn Clark said. “That’s no disrespect to Georgia State, but we have a standard here at Appalachian State, and we have to make sure we play to that standard.”
Georgia State received the opening kick but quickly relinquished possession as senior defensive back Shaun Jolly picked off Panther quarterback Darren Grainger. The Mountaineers wasted no time converting the turnover into points, needing eight plays to advance 59 yards into the end zone.
