HICKORY, N.C. – Trailing by a run in the fifth inning, App State launched three consecutive solo home runs, en route to a 10-6 win over Siena, to complete the series sweep at L.P. Frans Stadium.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, (win, 1-0) settled in nicely on the mound, recording a career-high nine strikeouts on the afternoon. Chirico allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, allowing just two runners to make it to third base from the second inning on.
Despite the early deficit, the Mountaineer bats responded quickly. CJ Boyd led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to straight away left field, his third in the first seven games of the year.
