BOONE, N.C. -- Sophomore Jordan Johnson (Winston-Salem, N.C./East Forsyth) set a new school record in the long jump, leading the Appalachian State men's track and field team to the team championship at the Appalachian Open.
The Mountaineers finished with 119 points, Lenoir-Rhyne was second with 72 points and Gardner Webb was third with 67 points.
Johnson posted a leap of 25-2.00, bettering the previous school record of 25-1.25 set by Michael Hanks in 1987. His mark also sits seventh in the nation.
Senior Ryan Hastings (Mathews, N.C./Porter Ridge) captured the 400-meter dash in 48.
