Jean-Charles Named Semifinalist for Bednarik, Thorpe Awards

BOONE, N.C. — App State senior cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles has been named a semifinalist for both the 2020 Chuck Bednarik Award, which goes to the nation's outstanding defensive player, and the 2020 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the nation's top defensive back.

Jean-Charles, a native of Miramar, Fla., is currently the FBS leader with 16 PBUs, 17 passes defended (with one interception at Texas State) and 1.7 passes defended per game in 10 games for the Mountaineers (7-3). He has been named ESPN's No. 3 breakout player in 2020 behind just BYU quarterback Zach Wilson and Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
