DURHAM, N.C. - Appalachian State University field hockey (8-9, 3-3 MAC) was shutout 4-0 in a hard fought battle against No. 2 Duke (15-2, 4-2 ACC) on Saturday afternoon at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
Appalachian goalkeeper Rachel Gaines made 15 saves against 35 shots by the Blue Devils with 25 on goal. The Mountaineers had six shots, three on target.
Annette Jarosz also made three second-half defensive saves, bringing her season total to five, which is the most in a single season since Marissa O'Brien made five defensives saves in 2015.
