DAVIDSON, N.C. - App State field hockey dropped the spring season-opener 4-2 on the road at Davidson Saturday.
Today's contest was the Mountaineers' first game in a span of 16 months.
With four minutes to go in the first, App State jumped out to an 1-0 advantage when freshman Grace Ball redirected a shot attempt toward the back of the net off a corner opportunity. The goal was Ball's first collegiate goal in her first collegiate start. Meghan Smart drew the foul in the circle prompting the corner.
Davidson would then score four unanswered goals, three in the second quarter, and head into the half with a 4-1 lead.
