FARMVILLE, VA. - Appalachian State University field hockey (3-7, 1-2 MAC) dropped a 4-1 decision to Longwood (9-1, 2-0 MAC), who moved into first place in the Mid-American standings with the win. Rebecca McLean scored her first goal of the season, which was also the senior's fifth of her Mountaineer career.
App State was unable to score in the first half behind seven shots, all in the final five minutes before halftime. The Mountaineer defense and goalkeeper Rachel Gaines faced eight shots in the first half, but Gaines made five saves while allowing just one goal.
