BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State freshman Luke Drumheller's five-double game Sunday has been named the national Performance of the Week by the Golden Spikes Award.
In a 14-0 win against Furman, Drumheller tied the NCAA Division I single-game record for doubles. He became the seventh Division I player with five doubles in a game and the first since Western Carolina's Aaron Attaway in 2012.
The other players on the list are Baylor's Jeremy Dodson (1998), Iona's Dean DeGaetano (1992), Villanova's Mike Wismer (1989), Louisville's Bill Gray (1986) and Maine's Tom Vanidestine (1981).
After being retired in the first inning, Drumheller hit a third-inning double and pushed App State ahead 5-0 with a three-run double in the fourth.
