GREENVILLE, S.C. — A one-hit shutout in which Appalachian State freshman Luke Drumheller tied an NCAA single-game record with five doubles started a doubleheader sweep of Furman and Michigan State on Sunday.
Playing in the First Pitch Invitational at Fluor Field, the Mountaineers won 14-0 against the Paladins on Sunday morning and 9-6 against the Spartans on Sunday afternoon. App State (6-8) led 7-6 before Riley Smith hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning of the finale, and Kaleb Bowman pitched four innings of scoreless relief to set up a save opportunity for Andrew Papp.
