LAFAYETTE, La. — Akeem Davis-Gaither joined fellow seniors Jordan Fehr, Josh Thomas and Victor Johnson at midfield as a captain for the coin toss before Appalachian State's 17-7 win on Wednesday night.
Davis-Gaither put in a lot of work before and during the game to validate that decision, leading a defense that limited high-scoring Louisiana to 123 rushing yards and 254 total yards. In their first five games, the Ragin' Cajuns had averaged 44.4 points, 314.0 rushing yards and 540.0 yards of total offense.
With App State playing several high-scoring games during its 4-0 start, Davis-Gaither implored the seniors and experienced members of the Mountaineers' defense to compete in a way that set a strong example.
