NEW ORLEANS – App State senior right-hander has been named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Chirico becomes the third Mountaineer this season to garner weekly recognition, joining Joseph Zamora (March 26) and Banks Tolley (April 2).
Chirico was exceptional in his start against Old Dominion on Saturday, delivering a career-high eight innings in the Mountaineers' 4-3 win over the Monarchs, marking the longest outing by a Mountaineer pitcher this season.
The Chapin, S.C. native allowed just one run, while scattering seven hits and struck out eight, without walking a batter in the outing.
